Amerzone Demo is out.
The Microids' opening animation was so nostalgic. 💚
I never played Amerzone before because of the motion sickness first POV induces for me so I was pretty excited to hear about a remake and hoping for some accessibility options. It's still a bit dizzying but you can fast forward the exploration and skip most movements that are just transition from one place to the next, climbing ladders, opening doors and such.
No free movement though, it's giving old time point-and-click vibes but with the things we like most about Sokal's works : exploration, puzzles, old tech and lots of reading.
They've added a layer with "side-quests" for the journalist protag, giving more depth/insight into the story by gathering/corroborating information to "write" articles.
The demo is approx an hour long (took my time and also it crashed twice) and there are already two very great easter eggs, made with Syberia fans in mind. Made me a bit emotional, ngl.
Also Inon & Ori Zur's music, man... Amazing as always. The main menu song is crazy.
The demo stops right when it's getting really interesting and now I really can't wait.
#she plays#amerzone#spoilers obviously#tldr the demo reassured me on the playability considering first pov motion sickness and I'm really excited to get to play it in full#syb 5 now please#or a syb 4 dlc about Baltayar pretty please

wip music monday + last line tag
tagged by @simplegenius042, @jillvalentinesday, and @inafieldofdaisies for some wip music/last lines
most recent line(s) from the werewolf au (the plot is starting to plotten <3)
Deputy Pratt stands near the front door, speaking quietly with the coroner and turning an almost comical shade of green. His hand is pressed to the lower half of his face, covering his mouth and pinching his nose shut as he pointedly ignores the gruesome scene before him.
and most recent lines/paragraphs from katc ch.5 (syb is uh...not doing great)
Microwave dinners and takeout eaten alone. Nights spent drinking herself into unconsciousness because it’s easier to do that than to suffer with the Hell that is her own mind. Days upon days spent on the road, measuring her life in the miles ticking up on her odometer and hooking up with random people in bars just to remember what the touch of another person feels like. No laughter or singing coming from the kitchen. No television or radio playing softly in the background as someone goes about cleaning or doing laundry. No life. No family. No love. No hope. No future. Just a lonely, unfulfilling, miserable life, hurtling towards death as quickly as she can because there’s nothing worth living for. A life she can’t return to. She refuses. She needs to find [Augustine].
song + lyrics under the cut
no specific songs are directly inspiring any of my wips, so take one that's been hitting me in the syb pov jakesyb feels
Like a virgin, a Madonna (Madonna), on my knees praying for a hunter You got a wild heart in your cage Little death, but I want another and another and another I want it bad, and I got no shame (I got no shame)
Just put your hands around my throat, ain't been to Heaven but I'm close Your love is a murder, your love is a murder I'll let you touch me sweet and slow, just take my body and my soul Your love is a murder, your love is a murder
In your bed just the way that God made me, cover me up, baby Just lay me in the dirt 'til I'm pushing up daisies, oh-oh You got a dark side, and it don't phase me, cover me up, baby Just lay me in the dirt 'til I'm pushing up daisies, oh (ooh)

(and if you want to be included in (or removed from) writing tags, like/reply to this post please!)
#pratt nearly vomits at a crime scene in the werewolf au (dont worry syb and eli are fine...for now)#and please...enjoy(?) a VERY heavily dean winchester coded syb moment for katc#ch 5 of katc needs some major tlc but i figure actually finishing a draft first will be easier than starting over#or...rather more /helpful/ than starting over anyways

930 Medina Studios 3br/1ba
A simple apartment reno for my "and they were roommates" savefile. Originally home to Austin Wentworth—the flat is now shared by him and two other buddies of his from high school/college.
I wanted to keep it simple, dark colors + greens with splashes of white/cream to fit all of their individual styles. I meant for this to be somewhat of a bachelor pad/hangout spot for their friend group so big open windows to let that natural light in was a must. Honestly, Medina Studios has some of the best lighting in San Myshuno.
Which is why I always have the lights off. There is one light in the living room but its a low light so it doesn't overshadow that natural sunlight :)

writeblr introduction
Hi all! Syb (she/her), tumblr user of around 5 years, fanfic writer for all those years and for the past year or so have been plugging away at some original fiction. I noticed the writeblr community seems awfully lovely, so I thought I’d join the conversation!
about me
cis woman, white, polyamorous, bisexual.
a happy artist in addition to writer! #my art is the tag on this blog for that
Canadian (EST)
My day job is a physics PhD student, I work in cosmology. Happy to take some asks on the topic! My degree was in math/physics, and math questions are super welcome. Please be patient about when I get back to you, I shall!
I’m still quite active in some very obscure fandoms, so always happy to chat about those.
I’m an adult! I’ve mixed feelings about interacting with minors on tumblr so please don’t take it personally if I don’t follow back :)
goals and wips
Main wip right now is the novel To Breathe a Vein of Ambergris (working title), and I will at some point make a post on that when I figure out how to summarize it. Content for that is tagged #abalone and ambergris.
My goal this year is to lay down 8 more chapters in the rough draft of Ambergris. I have currently 8 finished, at a loosely second draft stage. The story has been outlined for a while.
In terms of other wips, I may occasionally post things tagged #bubblegum and bullets, which is a much more lighthearted novel series I hope to write after Ambergris.
about my writing
I prioritize queer (LGBTA+ if you prefer) content in my writing, and am dipping my toe into writing POC characters as well, with as much care as I can manage
I like dark stories. I like happy endings, not grimdark ones. I will put my characters through hell but walk them out the other side with not just someone to hold onto, but a community behind them.
I love found family.
Some of my favourite genres: noir, survival dramas, apocalyptica, scientists being questioned, and whatever the heck Markus Zusak is as a genre. Kindness.
I started creative writing as a playwright, so I’ll always gravitate to dialogue. My favourite thing to write is emotionally charged conversations between characters.
about the blog
This blog will be for posting snippets of my writing and interacting with the writeblr community (reblogging others writing, writing advice).
My main is @sybilius, and I will follow from there.
My sideblog @bleak-nomads is historically where I have magpie-style collected inspiration for Ambergris, since it grew from the roots of a fanfiction I wrote for a cowboys film. As such, I’ll continue posting character inspiration there. You can follow if you so choose, this is just to let you know that it is also me.
who do I want to follow?
Survival fiction
Character-focused stories/blogs/advice
General writing advice blogs
dark academia (I don’t write it but I find it interesting)
Mystery/Noir
Queer/LGBTA fiction
If you like The Mountain Goats I probably want to follow you ;)
If you don’t see your genre on the list feel free to give this post a like/reblog anyways! I am open to a ton of different things and am happy to engage with the community!

No Rest for the Wicked: Chapter 3 Part 5
A glance at the clock told Sam, that his visitor was late. It was something he was already used to but it annoyed him none the less every time anew. He knocked gently with his fingers on the desk in the knowledge his visitor made him wait on purpose. When it finally knocked on the door the clock told the visitor was twenty minutes late. “Come in, Michael.” It felt like the door spat out his brother like he was something inedible. Like always Michael let his height and his muscles speak for themselves to intimidate Samuel. After all this time this game became boring and it took him a lot of self-control to no yawn. “How can I help you?” “I just wanted to see if you have everything under control. I heard you didn’t fulfill your duties properly recently.” With folded hands Micheal leaned forward and stared at Sam insistently. “That’s why you made the long way over here? We could have clear this out in a different way. And don’t worry, you can tell father, I am in control as always.” As slowly as he could without falling over Michael got up again and went to the window next to Sam’s desk. He put his hands behind his back and looked outside while humming a known tune. Again one of his old techniques. For a moment Sam was tempted to snap at his brother that he could really come up with something new. Instead, he turned to his papers again, he needed to look through anyway before Alex could take over. It must have been a couple of minutes until Michael realized he got ignored. An angry huff signaled the upcoming lecture. “So you decided to ignore me?” “Who started this when he went to the window?”, Sam questioned not impressed while he signed the contract in front of him. “That’s how you want to play this game?” “Michael, this isn’t a game.” “At least you realized how serious this is.” Sam put the pen away and moved his hands through his hair before he looked up at Michael. “Do you finally want me to say why you came here or do you like to talk in passive-aggressive riddles?” With a serious face Michael straightened his back. “Malekay.” Barely Sam suppressed the pained sigh. “What did he do this time?” “We aren’t sure about it but he vanished from the radar. You know what this means.” thoughtfully Sam nodded. “He is up to something. He will never learn.” “Father wants him to come home.” “That is the best after all this time. He doesn’t want to watch out. I gave him enough chances to turn around. Do you know where he is?” “He vanished from the radar in New York. You should start there.” Again Sam moved his hands through his hair. With a frown, he looked at his brother. “Why aren’t you guys involved?” “You know why.” The annoyed hum was Sam’s confirmation he knew very well. “Well then, I take care of this. I need to see which Cleaner is in New York right now. It might take some time until I have a track.” “You know time doesn’t matter for father.” “I know. he only cares for results.” Michael turned to leave but stopped for one more moment. “Please greet Rebecca from me. Azrael told me what happened.” “You aren’t angry at her?” “It was bad luck. We can’t control everything.” The lost in thoughts expression Michael wore when he left confused Sam. He barely saw his brother like this and this alone was reason enough to see this as a bigger issue than he normally would.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, the introduction of Micahel. I kinda love this big stoic guy. Since I decided to move around scenes a bit this will be the last part of chapter 3. Have fun @i-rove-rock-n-roll @writingwordsanddrawingpictures @syb-writes-still @broad-skies @pen-and-sword-writing @madmoonink @whollyart @scrubbish-rubbish @c-g-nyx-writes @writersloth @kainablue
I will concentrate on finishing the first draft for the rest of the month, so you might get excerpts of stuff I like out of the context a bit.

syb’s guide to her own pasta fic
Another fic writer in my other fandom wrote a “guide to their own fic” where she sass-described all the different works and their purposes. I thought that would be a fun thing to do with my pasta fic :) other fic writers encouraged to do the same with theirs.
The first fic I wrote for the fandom was Devil's pupil gonna teach you to sight. If The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is your starter spaghetti Western and what you wanted from it was some grimy cowboy hatesex, you've come to the right place. If you get into this fic, scroll down past the cut for the Coles notes on my Blondeyes fic.
Just saw For a Few Dollars More and want shippy Mantimer content? I have two fics, A Name's Witness, which is a series of shippy canon annotations, and Sight, Blank, and Shot which is a post canon fix it fic with a rollicking adventure and some soft bondage.
For some less mainstream offerings, A Companion to Trees and a Song for a Friend is a post canon daemon au to Beyond the Law. I think this is one of the sweetest fics I have ever written, which suits the good ship Cudvac.
The total tonal opposite is my fic cheap dynamite for A Bullet for the General (which is only on tumblr since I still don’t feel I’m very good at writing abuse ships). Nino/Chuncho, and definitely heed the content warnings on this fic.
I also have like a coin that won't get tossed, which explores a post canon Ryan and Bill from Death Rides a Horse. My characterization there is in broad strokes based on @mcicioni-blog’s writings so I would highly encourage you to read her work first, since it's closer to the canon timeline.
Alright, now let's talk about the content I make rather obsessively: Blondeyes. Please for the love of God read the tags and chapter notes if you need trigger warnings.
If you want more canon-close content for GBU, the place to start is Three of Spades, Two of Clubs, but only the first three chapters. This fic is a series of short Blondie and Angel Eyes centric ficelets I wrote, but some of these will only be relevant to people who have read my entire Blondeyes canon. Be warned, the third chapter is sad, but I think of it as one of my best short works.
If you were into the kinky hatefuck dynamic of Devil's Pupil, why not give solitudinum fecerunt, pacem appelunt a try? It's mostly that but it has a great arc and some unusual narration.I’m oddly proud of the characterization I had for Angel Eyes in this. That fic sort of starts you down the rabbit hole of my Blondeyes verse.
If you read that and want more angst, but nothing too long, Chapter 4 of Three of Spades presents a divergence to solitudinem that is both sweet and angsty. (who built) the road is also a short and sweet drabble series, with angst in places. It's meant to bridge solitudinem and the next fic, so it can be read before or after without a whole lot changed.
If you’re ready to jump down the rabbit hole, Sighted Crows in a Desert of Rime is probably one of my best works, and my love letter to Hannibal. Relentless angst, murder sideplot, extreme kinky bullshit, and a happy ending. Oh and if you've gotten this far please drop me a message -- I love talking to people about the ship.
If you just want a little bit of goddamn fluff from this ship of all places….Chapter 5 of Three of Spades will do that for you.
If you’re sick of both of them by now and you want a total tone shift, also you’re interested in reading an epistolary with nods to House of Leaves and follows roughly the plot of The Blair Witch Project, well, The Grey Desert Mythos is the fic for you. Is it the most obscure bullshit I have ever written? Probably.
I have at least two other Blondeyes fics in the works right now, which I will append to this post later :)
Finally, if you want some silly ficlets the drabble tag on this blog has a few things that will probably never be revised into real fics.
#my fic#the definitive guide#syb's pasta fic#pasta fic#wow the blondeyes section is so extensive#and lbr#that guide is needed#esp given how confusing three of spades is lol#sybil writes fic

tagging @seadem-on because I was looking back over your fics recently and they are a joy :^))
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
24! God that feels like a lot considering the time
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
87114—somehow that makes me feel long-winded jajaj
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
1. avec le geste drôle desdébutants
2. One Last Ride
3. dans la démission de vieuxamis
4. Static Contact
5. Wrapped in Orange Firelight
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to! I can take a long time to digest nice things being said about my work jaja recently Syb has ended up replying to almost every comment we get on our collab^^;;; a saint
5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Huh, the real worst ending might be stolen from D actually, the one time I wrote a short fic for their ‘Darkness Before Dawn’ au-of-an-au, but as far as my own work or stuff published on my Ao3 maybe demissions? I don’t write a lot of angst ^^;
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
On the flipside, a lot of my catalogue is fluff! Probably Firelight, or anything from the Tio Tuco series takes this spot.
7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I am very bad at being consistently interested in more than one piece of media at a time—uh, maybe the dollars triplets AU I was using as the basis for the Blondie diners fic counts well enough? jajaj
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Maybe? Syb and I got a really weird comment on our collab recently, but there’s a 50/50 chance it was just some bad internet-brained kid trying to give a compliment. I think in general I’m too small, in too small fandoms.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
An embarrassing amount all things considered, and I’m not sure how I’d categorize it by kind? I guess most of it is generically affectionate or at least, like, romantic in the sense of being driven by romantic sentiment y’know. I suppose nowadays a lot of the DE smut I write is quite domestic.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Nope!
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope! I wish I could translate more fic myself, but I never seem to fall into big enough fandoms to justify it. Oh well.
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Co-writing one right now :^)
13. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
I didn’t really ship at all before I started writing fic for GBU, so maybe I *have* to give it to the trio jajaj
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Ah, a lot of things. The Blondie diners fic, the series that was going to go with Demissions and Geste Drole, maybe even the Writer Harry AU I fiddled around with for DE considering college stuff on the horizon…
15. What are your writing strengths?
People tell me they like my prose, which is nice! I’ve heard a lot about like, imagery and long sentences in comments and quips from friends. People seem to like the smut and jokes too.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
Had postmodernism bro disease and now I can’t describe an action in a straightforward way ever for some obscure reason. Also I fully write trans characters in half my fic and writing and yet I am physically incapable of saying the words “trans” or “srs” or “top surgery” or anything else that isn’t aggressively vague for some reason. Also I too do not think I… ever ever pass the Bechdel test. Oops.
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Please please please get a native speaking beta. Or at least your high school language knowledge. Please. Last week I read a fic with such bad Spanish that for the rest of the week I was convinced that the English word “come” had the implication “to arrive from a destination from another” and the Spanish “venir” had the implication “to embark towards a destination from another” (which now I’m like, wait that’s debatable it could totally be a direct translation even though the fic incorrectly used “llendo” as its euphemism, when that verb is actually a bathroom euphemism and not a sex one?) and stuck on the etymological question of the differences in euphemisms and BASICALLY yes if anyone needs Spanish translations. Please. My DMs are open.
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
If childhood counts, uh, Cirque du Soleil actually? I very stupidly deleted the file out of embarrassment in middle school so it is lost forever.
19. What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?
Oh man, it’s very hard to pick. To this day I’m still quite proud of “On the long-term effects of half-smoked cigars; or, To make a man unkillable”, but I’m generally really happy with the work I’ve done on my DE prose fics ^^
I almost missed this, thank you so much to @gaeadene for tagging me!
I tag @believerindaydreams and @suppuration
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Well, currently I only have three. Once upon a time I had ten, but most of those were because Learnin’ the Blues was broken up into multiple parts. Actual total now is 12
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
Currently the total for all the fics I ever posted (before purge and after) is 311,595, but as soon as I finished posting the current book it’ll be 365,124!
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
This is almost like cheating since most of these are from the same story
1. No Light (122)
2. Which Way Are You Going (86)
3. Talking In Your Sleep (83)
4. Arizona and How Did You Love (61)
5. Twisted (54)
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to! Sometimes I get busy and honestly just overwhelmed, because a comment will be so touching that I don’t know what to say. I can only send so many pictures of people weeping into their hands with love and gratitude!
5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
No Light, hands down. Everyone loses!
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
as I pause to debate whether any of my fics can actually be considered to have a happy ending Jokes aside, I do think it’s Learnin’ the Blues. It’s a dark ending, but everyone got what they earned, and in the end, mercy and forgiveness won out over hate.
7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Nah, my hyperfixations tend to be monogamous
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
ha ha ha ha haaaah ahahahaahaha
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes and it’s the bad kind
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Many, many times!
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope!
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nah, I work alone, too invested in my own vision and seeing it through exactly the way I want it. I prefer to do art for collaborations
13. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
The Ever Given
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I don’t really have one. I think about the No Light sequel a lot because I love the ideas for it, like Joshua ghoulifying and the lives of Nephi and Jerusha, but I know I’m never going to have it in me to sit and write it because it would most likely be a 500k word doorstop of a novel.
15. What are your writing strengths?
I’ve been told that my writing is concise and evocative, that it tends to make people feel like they’re really living it, which is tremendously huge praise <3
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
According to my beta, it’s overuse of the phrase “once more” and too many loving descriptions of Joshua Graham’s pale blue eyes
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Fantastic if it’s done well and not some weird parody/mockery of whatever language is being used.
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Fallout!
19. What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?
You can’t ask me to choose between my children! My three books mean more to me than just about anything, because they cover so many different challenges and struggles I’ve had in my life, as well as finally achieving my dream of writing. But, if I had to choose one that isn’t those three, it would be Twisted. For a one shot, that hit harder and more emotional than I thought it would, and looking back on it with the perspective from coming out as a trans man, that fic just SCREAMS closeted transsexual, so it too has a lot of significance to me. It was also pretty hot 😌
#thank you for the tag D!#bleeding...... unironically changed my life which is like insane aksdjnf#the fanned fiction...... so weird

rules: choose a couple of fave photos/gifs of your character! copy and paste the questions down below! answer as if you’re the character that’s been tagged! then tag some of your fave characters/authors to answer next! (btw you’re also allowed to tag an author again if they have more than one character you want to answer these questions!)
I was tagged by @niallandharrymakemestrong thank you!! I’m not really sure who to tag, im shit at keeping up with fics, but anyone who wants to do it, PLEASE do!!
sn: gonna write this in the context that niall and sybil are still just fwb, its funner that way ;)
1. If it’s 1am and you’re still awake and wanting to talk to someone, who do you call and what do you talk about?
Niall: Well, if its 1am and I’m still awake, I’m probably balls deep inside her...
Sybil: Niall! *shakes her head* That wasn’t even the question, you weirdo. Okay well first off, he wouldn’t call me–
N: Who says I wouldn’t?
S: Um, you don’t…*Niall rolls his eyes* Anyway, he would probably just send me some corny snap or text or something and then I would call him...because well, I always do. We don’t really chat on the phone much though, but when we do...I guess, we probably just talk about–
N: Stuff we can’t say right now...
S: Golf.
N: *he furrows his brows* Golf?
S: Yup. It always starts off with golf or sports or something equally uninteresting. It’s his way of subtly breaking the ice to get in my pants. Or so he thinks. *Niall laughs*
N: Well, it works doesn’t it?
S: Not as well as you want it to…
N: Yeah, I’ll remember that.
S: Please do. Then next time maybe we can talk about the exciting world of animal documentaries! *Sybil does a fake gasp*
N: You’re an asshole.
S: *giggles*
2. Are you the big spoon or the little spoon?
N: Big spoon. No way in hell I’m being a little spoon.
S: What does that even mean? You don’t like being cuddled?
N: No, I like it but...I dunno...I’m always the big spoon, Sybs.
S: *she laughs* Okay, Ni, you’re the big spoon.
3. If you could only listen to one band/artist for the rest of your life, who would it be?
N: Eagles. No question.
S: Hmm…*taps finger on chin* I’d say...One Direction. *sybil shoots her gaze to niall, seeing him staring at her with wide eyes. She shrugs.* What? 1D is a classic, Ni, didn’t you know?
N: Fuckin’ mental. *sybil giggles*
4. What kind of drunk are you?
S: Well, this Irish fella doesn’t really get drunk so...but I’d say I’m a happy drunk. I love love when I’m plastered.
N: Yeah, I think we all know that... *sybil pushes a hand to his shoulder*
5. Are you a team player or do you prefer to go solo?
N: I’d like to think I’m a team player. I work well with others, I guess. Solo is good too though...
S: Solo. Most the time.
6. When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
S: I wanted to be a veterinarian.
N: Did ya?
S *nods at him* Yup! Loved animals when I was younger. Don’t even have time to have a fucking goldfish now, but yeah. Probably something you didn’t know about me, huh?
N: Nope. But I can see that. *he gives her a smile* I always knew I wanted to sing, perform and all that. Was always me dream.
7. What’s your ultimate feel good/pick me up TV show or film?
N: Stepbrothers! Or Anchorman...
S: *groans* I’d say anything that has a happy ending. I’m not too picky as long as it’s not dumb. *glances at Niall* Horror movies are my go to though, but they don’t really scream ‘feel good’, do they? *she chuckles*
N: Your love of horror movies scares the shite outta me, to be honest. Afraid I’m gonna wake up one mornin’ with her standin’ by me side of the bed in a mask with me willy chopped off…
S: Oh my God, what? You are so fucking weird, Ni! *they both laugh*
8. What is one scent that reminds you of home? Why?
N: Cow shit. I’m from Ireland, need I say more?
S: Gross. I’d say, the beach. Saltwater and sand. Sunscreen. Anything that has to do with the California coast.
9. If you were given a blank piece of paper and a pen, what would happen?
S: Well, I know what Niall is gonna say–
N: A song.
S: Yup. *she giggles* But for me...I don’t know. I’d probably write a love letter. It’s romantic.
N: A love letter? To who?
S: *she shrugs* I don’t know, to whoever I’m...feeling at the moment.
N: So not to me then?
S: Ni, why would I write you a love letter when you can just call me and have a tantalizing conversation about golf and Planet Earth…
N: *rolls his eyes and shakes his head* Ain’t gonna let that go, are ya?
S: Nope.
10. What are your top three most used emojis?
S: 🙄 💅🏻 🍾 *she chuckles* those are random but so...me.
N: 🍺 😏 🍆 *niall shows sybil his choices and laughs*
S: *she rolls her eyes in a huff* None of those surprise me in the least...

Guitar Synth Pedals | 9 Best Synthesizer Pedals for Guitar
What is a Guitar Synthesizer, or Guitar Synthesizer Pedal?
Guitar Synth Pedals are effects processors that enable a guitarist to use his guitar to emulate the sound of a synthesizer. Upon activation of the guitar effects unit, the output signal from the guitar is taken and processed by the guitar synth pedal, changing the overall sound. These processing units are commonly used within both a live performance setting and within studio recording sessions.
Unlike other pedals that one would consider more mandatory, such guitar tuner pedals. Guitar Synth Pedals cannot be so easily swapped for a replacement, unless it is the same model of course, as each guitar synthesizer unit will have unique circuitry that will achieve a different sound. This makes it extremely important for a guitarist to choose a reliable synth processor, as he/she will need to use this particular model within their live performances, especially if it has been used in the recorded material.
What Does a Guitar Synthesizer Pedal Do?
As previously touched upon, a guitar synthesizer processor will manipulate the input signal of the guitar, to help emulate the sound of a synthesizer for guitar, based on the interface settings that the guitarist has set. Due to the nature of a guitar synth unit, they are more commonly placed within the middle of a signal-chain, although we highly advise that you play around with the positioning of your pedal-board until you’re happy.
Now, let’s get to the good part of displaying all of the guitar synth pedals in our list. However, if you’re limited for time, please refer to our conclusion, where we summarise and justify our recommendations.
Although if you do have the time, take a look at all of the pedals, including the reviews and video demonstrations of each synthesizer unit in action.

Customer Review Rating
The DigiTech Dirty Robot Mini-Synth has received an average rating of 4.8* out of 5 stars from over 7 Amazon customer reviews – Read these reviews here.
Summary
The DigiTech Dirty Robot is a Mini-Sized Synthesizer for Guitar that provides two main synth voices. This includes V1 which is a straight envelope style voicing, and V2 which provides more of a vocoder-like sound with variable range. Both of these main synthesizer sounds can be modified through the use of the 4 main control knobs on the front of the panel for further customization.
Refer to the video demonstration to hear exactly how this pedal sounds.
The Dirty Robot provides both Stereo input and output, although you can just use the Mono input/output if you prefer. It’s powered by a 9v power supply (which is not included), and therefore we’ve featured our recommended power-supply above in the technical specs.
What would we improve?
Overall, there isn’t much that we would improve with this pedal, considering it appeals to the guitarist who wants a compact, durable pedal for his/her pedal-board. Potentially, we would like to see a few more synth voicings, but that’s really it!
Who is this pedal for?
The DigiTech Dirty Robot is for the guitarist who wants a synthesizer pedal that isn’t going to take up too much room on his/her pedalboard. Also, one that provides stereo input/output, which is definitely a selling point if you’re looking for this functionality.

Customer Review Rating
The Hotone Q-Box has received an average rating of 4.3* out of 5 stars from over 19 Amazon customer reviews – Read these reviews here.
Summary
The Hotone Q-Box is an extremely small, compact and lightweight wah and autowah synth-like guitar processing pedal. It has three main modes that can be deployed upon your audience; The first which provides a Touch Wah mode accompanied by a high-pass filter. The second which is the same Touch Wah mode, accompanied by a low-pass filter, and finally a Autowah mode, with an accompanying low-pass filter.
Alongside these three dynamic wah filtering modes, there are two other knobs that can be used to further adjust the sound, once a mode has been picked. These are both the Range and Q controls.
The range control essentially chooses the central frequency in which the filter should oscillate around, which is between 300hz – 1900hz.
The Q control adjusts the sharpness of the overall output signal.
Refer to the video demonstration to hear exactly how this pedal sounds.
What would we improve?
Taking everything into consideration, including the price of this pedal, there’s not much that we would improve (feature-wise) as this would most likely have a direct impact on raising the pedal’s price. This is a very basic, synth-like filtering pedal, so as long as you’re not expecting the world, you’ll be pleased.
Who is this pedal for?
The Hotone Q-Box is ideal for a guitarist who’s looking for a synth-like wah pedal which provides a select few modes, to just help add some texture to his/her overall sound. This pedal is highly affordable, lightweight and very small, so it’s an easy addition to anyones pedalboard, assuming they want a wah/synth pedal.

Customer Review Rating
The Boss SY-300 has received an average rating of 4.3* out of 5 stars from over 10 Amazon customer reviews – Read these reviews here.
Summary
The Boss SY-300 is the ultimate Guitar Synthesizer processor pedal. This large, rather heavy unit not only combines a wide range of synthesizer effects, but also a range of filter oscillations and amplifier simulators. With over 70 preset patches, 99 user programmable patches and with USB connectivity, it means that you can connect the Boss SY-300 to your computer for general system and specific patch updates, alongside the ability to make setting/patch adjustments within your chosen DAW, so that you can sculpt your perfect synth sounds.
The SY-300 is operated by ultra-fast DSP circuitry, and this is required considering that it can provide simultaneous synth-sound processing. Because it can provide this level of processing, it has 3 user footswitches on the front of the interface, making it quick and easy to enable and disable patches and presets by the click of a switch. All of the SY-300’s settings are displayed in a clear way on the large LCD screen, making it easy to see which is particularly helpful in a live staged/live performance environment which may be dark.
Finally, the SY300 has a range of output options, including two main output sections ‘Main Output’ which features an optional stereo output, ‘Sub Output’ which also features optional stereo output, and finally ‘Thru Output’ which delivers the dry input signal to an output device of your choice, whether that is an amplifier or another effects unit.
What would we improve?
Simply put, we think that this process has it all; However, because of this, it leaves it being priced very steeply, and although this in direct co-relation to the level of features, we wish it was slightly more affordable. None-the-less, a wonderful guitar synthesizer if one has the cash to spend on this kind of unit.
Who is this pedal for?
The Boss SY-300 is for the professional musician who’s looking for a serious piece of kit to use for recording and touring with. Simply put, it has such a wealth of features, this really is a processing unit that will provide all the synthesizer sounds that you could ever wish for… Especially since it has the functionality to allow for user patches, so you really can personalize your presets as much as possible.

Customer Review Rating
The Korg MIKU STOMP has received an average rating of 4.1 out of 5 stars from over 52 Amazon customer reviews – Read these reviews here.
Summary
Ok, so this is one of the coolest, but also one of the strangest pedals that we’ve seen… So we just had to include it in this list, on the off-chance that you think… Wow, that’s so crazy, I want it!
Essentially this Korg pedal acts as a synthesizer/vocoder and simulates this Japanese character called Hatsune Miku. The internal circuitry in this unit works on vocal synthesis technology, and is part of the eVocaloid
, which is based on Yamaha’s next-generation NSX-1 sound engine.
It should be noted that this pedal is monophonic, and therefore only supports single-note playing.
The pedal comes with 11 vocalised presets. However, what’s really interesting about this pedal is the fact that you can add your own lyric and vocal sounds through the KORG MIKU STOMP iPhone app.
As you can hear from the video demonstration. It can sound quite interesting! Our favourite setting has the be the ‘Looh’ setting, as it’s one of the more subtle sounds; But there are so many settings that you can play around with, to see which is right for your playing style and sound.
What would we improve?
This is very much a bespoke, one of a kind pedal. Therefore it’s very hard to make improvements, as it’s not like we can really compare it to any similar pedals out there.. Because there simply aren’t any. If anything, we wish that the pedal was polyphonic, and hence supported multiple string harmonies simultaneously.
Oh, and as you can see from the video demonstration, the pedal sometimes struggles to keep up during moments in which the guitarist is playing quickly. Therefore this may not be for guitarists who want a synth pedal to ‘shred’ with.
Who is this pedal for?
This pedal is for any guitarist who wants to sound a little different on-stage. Given the time to work out exactly how to integrate this within their existing rig, this could really make a great addition to any guitarists pedalboard.
My advice is to potentially look at getting a ‘reverse’ pedal alongside this, as it could really achieve some incredibly unique sounds.

Weight : 1.95lbs
Dimensions : 13″ x 10″ x 2.7″ inches
Customer Review Rating
The Micro Synth by Electro Harmonix has received an average rating of 4.1* out of 5 stars from over 13 Amazon customer reviews – Read these reviews here.
Summary
The Electro Harmonix Micro Synthesizer is certainly a versatile guitar synth, with it’s 10-slider layout, this pedal is able to achieve a multitude of sounds, from classic synthesizer voicing s like the Moog Synth, to more custom-made sounds. More than enough to keep any guitarist occupied and more importantly satisfied in their choice of synth processor.
As we’ve featured above, Electro Harmonix has featured a nice sample settings template document, so that buyers of the pedal know exactly how to achieve these iconic, well-known sounds that we recognise.
Overall, we were very impressed by the range of sounds that this processor can achieve. And not only that, but the quality of these sounds; One of our favourites is the ‘Polyphonic Synth’ setting, as it sounds very anthemic, and we can almost imagine hearing that kind of guitar lead being played by U2.
Refer to the video demonstration to hear exactly how this pedal sounds.
What would we improve?
Ok, so this pedal provides so many synth sounds. However, the main disadvantage is the fact that settings have to be manually changed on the interface, which involves potentially changing up to 10-sliders.
On the other hand, the fact that this is not a digital pedal (and presets cannot be called on at the click of a button), but an analog one, means that the sound quality is extremely good. So making this trade-off is well worth it for some!
Additionally, this unit is quite pricey, but you get what you pay for!
Who is this pedal for?
The Electro Harmonix Micro Synthesizer is for the guitarist wanting an analog processor which is versatile in its ability to provide high-quality classic sounds, through to modern synth sound emulation. It’s highly customizable, and because of this, it’s certainly a very attractive prospect for any guitarist to want, just take a listen!

The MXR EVH Phase 90 has received an average rating of 4.7* out of 5 stars from over 52 Amazon customer reviews – Read these reviews here.
Summary
The MXR EVH Phase 90 is a guitar synthesizer pedal developed by MXR/Jim Dunlop, with the collaboration from legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen. This new version is based on the classic Phase 90 phaser pedal, and therefore it includes all of the features of this pedal, but includes additional features.
The EVH Phase 90 includes a ‘script’ button which allows the guitarist to switch between the following two phaser settings, ‘Script’ and ‘Block logo’. Similarly to the origianl Phase 90 pedal, the EVH phase 90 also incldues a ‘Speed’ knob at the forefront of the device, which controls the rate of phase.
Refer to the video demonstration to hear exactly how this pedal sounds.
What would we improve?
Considering this pedal is based on the classic MXR Phase 90, and the fact that Eddie Van Halen has worked in collaboration with MXR/Jim Dunlop on creating this pedal, I honestly don’t think that you can possibly top this! This analog pedal has the same awesome phasing sound as the original model, and comes with additional features.
Who is this pedal for?
This pedal is definitely for guitarists who are a fan of the original MXR Phase 90 pedal, alongside those who are a fan of Eddie Van Halen. But to put it more specifically based on the features, this pedal is definitely for the guitarist who yearns for simplicity and requires reliability, as it has only two main phaser sounds, and has been in development by some of the best people in the industry.

Customer Review Rating
The Electro-Harmonix Superego has received an average rating of 4.0* out of 5 stars from over 27 Amazon customer reviews – Read these reviews here.
Summary
The Electro-Harmonix Superego is another addition to their number of guitar synthesizer pedals… And another addition from Electro-Harmonix to our list, mainly because their products are fantastic.
The Superego provides a range of more eccentric synthesizer effects, distributed through two of the onboard synth modes, ‘ Latch’, ‘Momentary’ and ‘Auto’. This includes such effects as infinite sustain, signal layering and controllable glissando; all of which are easily controlled through the clear, user-friendly interface.
This pedal is fantastic at creating those ambient synth-voicing tones, with each synth mode enabling a different kind of synth voicing to be achieved. Our favourite has to be the droned ‘organ’ sound that can be heard in latch mode, enabling the guitarist to play over the effect with more lead parts.
For a demonstration as to how this pedal sounds, please refer to the video demonstration that we’ve featured down below.
Although it’s not necessarily a feature, we do like the fact that Electro-Harmonix includes the power-supply with the product, as other manufacturers such as Boss are renowned for not doing this… Yes, it’s the small things that make the difference.
What would we improve?
Just from looking at the video demonstration alone, we don’t think that we can suggest any improvements. It’s easy to switch between modes and voicings, but make sure that you have the preset settings written down next to the pedal, in case you have to make quick settings adjustments during a live performance, in-between songs.
Who is this pedal for?
For the guitarist who likes slightly fuzzy (in a wonderful way), analog synth pedal, capable of achieving smooth ambient sounding synthesizer voicings, alongside drone-like tones. In our opinion, it’s the perfect pedal for a guitarist who’s interested in playing anything from anthemic rock to bluesy, soul-filled music or even country. This can clearly be seen from both of the video demonstrations, in particular, the second one that we’ve featured.

Summary
The Electro-Harmonix Synth 9 is yet another addition to their number of guitar synthesizer pedals… And another addition from Electro-Harmonix to our list, mainly because their products are fantastic.
The Synth9 is known for being quite a famous pedal, with it being used by a range of famous artists/bands including Joy Division, Peter Gabriel, P-Funk and many more. If this isn’t a reason alone to purchase this kind of guitar synthesizer, I don’t know what is!
The Synth9 provides 9 main synthesizer sounds, which stretch anything from 80’s sounding pop synth voicings (OBX) through to somewhat distorted sounding bass synth pads (Mood Bass). Once the main synthesizer voicing has been chosen, it can be further edited using the CRTL 1 and CTRL 2 knobs, which control additional effects such as filtering, voice intervals and much more.
Another nice feature of the Synth9 pedal is the fact that it has two outputs, one dry and one wet output. Each output level is controlled by a separate volume knob, which is very helpful.
This pedal provides a lot of functionality and therefore considering this, there are no immediate things that we would like to comment on improving.
Who is this pedal for?
This pedal is definitely for guitarists who are a fan of the original MXR Phase 90 pedal, alongside those who are a fan of Eddie Van Halen. But to put it more specifically based on the features, this pedal is definitely for the guitarist who yearns for simplicity and requires reliability, as it has only two main phaser sounds, and has been in development by some of the best people in the industry.

songs under the cut because baby's LONG -- first three are vaguely from syb's pov, the next three from jacob's, and the last three are mutual feelings <3
heaven or hell - digital daggers
I've got the same deep wounds as you, My love can double as a weapon too Say that you trust it and I'll set it free Turn it back on me Turn it back on me
We trade our secrets when it's safe Our ammunition when the fever breaks Show me the side no one else sees Turn it back on me Turn it back on me
I am exposed, I am undone You tear the walls down one by one We tried to run, we tried to hide in fear of losing ourselves We tried to keep it all inside so we don't hurt someone else When all the demons come alive I'll still be under your spell, This could be heaven or hell This could be heaven or hell
blindfold - sleeping wolf
In the dark I need to taste the blood Go on Draw another line we can cross this time Battle scars Your touch is not enough I need you to pierce my Veins and become my pain
So use your blindfold Cover your hands on my eyes, closed Do it again Tie me up and show me what's real Hate your love, but love how you feel Useless, trying to fight And the truth is, I'd rather be blind I'd rather be blind
not strong enough - apocalyptica + brent smith
I'm not strong enough to stay away I can't run from you I just run back to you Like a moth, I'm drawn into your flame You say my name But it's not the same
You look in my eyes I'm stripped of my pride And my soul surrenders And you bring my heart to its knees
And it's killing me when you're away And I wanna leave, and I wanna stay And I'm so confused, so hard to choose Between the pleasure and the pain And I know it's wrong, and I know it's right Even if I try to win the fight My heart would overrule my mind And I'm not strong enough to stay away
i know i'm a wolf - young heretics
Dear rabbit, my legs are getting weak chasing you The snow fields wouldn't seem so big if you knew That this blood on my teeth it is far beyond dry And I've captured you once but I wasn't quite right So I'm telling you that you'll be safe with me.
on your knees - matthew mayfield
Such a disgrace Thе way the vengeance tastes Best served cold But it's the heat I crave
Took the fall but Learned to crawl up the highest prison wall Yeah, doing my best to keep you pressed In a sunken chest
This is the way to life This is the way to die Darling, I hope you, see what I go through But I ain’t gonna leave you on your knees This is where the love counts Covered in the breakdown I ain’t gonna leave you on your knees No, I ain’t gonna leave you on your knees
afterlife - nothing but thieves
You can tell your God he can keep his salvation And if you like, the angels can fly into the sun We don't, we don't have to do this again Please don't, please don't make me start this again
It was only ever you It was only ever you My baby, it feels like a lifetime Oh God, I don't think I could do two
My soul is tortured with love and lust and hate My cracked lips are unkissed for a million days My infected heart, it's bleeding in this cage I'm losing my dignity, not got long left to wait
iris - diamante + breaking benjamin
And I'd give up forever to touch you 'Cause I know that you feel me somehow You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be And I don't want to go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment And all I can breathe is your life And sooner or later, it's over I just don't wanna miss you tonight
And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am
marked for death - emma ruth rundle
it was right that we did meet each other in each other’s eyes it was right that we did see each other in our shadow sides it was wrong then too that crazy love, loves crazy as it does and each of us and both of us so crazy; as it was
who else is going to love someone like you that’s marked for death who else is going to be with you when you breathe your last who else is going to take my place and hold and keep you safe/sane who else is going to stay
somebody to die for - hurts
I've got nothing left to live for Got no reason yet to die But when I'm standing in the gallows I'll be staring at the sky
Because no matter where they take me In death I will survive And I will never be forgotten With you by my side
Cause I don't need this life I just need...
Somebody to die for
#r: define your meaning of war#i will never not mention this particular version of 'iris' it's just so good i love it so much#oc: deputy sybille la roux
